In 1999 the British Medical Journal advanced its opinion that hypnosis was effective for many more things including relief from the treatments of cancer, panic disorders, insomnia, phobias, obesity, pain, asthma, and Irritable Bowel Syndrome (IBS).
Hypnosis is known to change brain wave activity substantially. And when you access the subconscious mind change tends to remain in place far, far longer than taking a pill nightly/daily does.
Sometimes, and this is no one’s ‘fault’, living in a way that doesn’t serve us (bad food, bad thoughts, bad lifestyle) leads to electricity getting stuck in particular spots. This creates pain, dysfunction, and depression.
Among the things I do with stop smoking clients is spend time exploring past attempts at quitting and why they failed; I also identify the triggers that need to be avoided. Together we build a plan to break the link between cigarettes and the activities that go with them.
When the conscious mind says, “I want to stop”, but the subconscious says, “I need to smoke because, (choose what applies) smoking numbs me out, smoking gives me comfort, makes me feel powerful, etc. etc., we have a conflict.
I was able, and happy, to help people with various complaints, including low back pain (sleeping atop cold hard ground? Gee.); depression; balky knee; insomnia; sniffly cold; diarrhea and stress. In other words, a pretty decent cross section of the population.
